While installing pipes in a drainage system or any other pipe installation for residential or commercial purposes, it is very important to know the capacity of the pipes in technical terms. For this purpose, drain test plugs perform a significant role. These plugs can be used to block the pipes and determine the maximum holding capacity and other features of the pipes.
What is a Drain Testing Plug?
The body of the Drain Testing Plugs is made from metal or plastic with a wing nut at the top. This nut aids easy tightening and removal of the plug. These plugs are capable of handling high pressure.
What are Drain Testing Plugs used for?
These plugs are used to seal pipes at the ends. These are also used for stopping pipes while testing them for the highest amount of pressure these can bear. This testing is mandatory before installing the pipes in construction projects in order to meet the specified building regulations. These plugs are available in a wide range of types, shapes, and sizes such as center lock and rim fastening plugs. While rim fastening plugs are available in a steel body only, center lock type plugs can be obtained as steel, aluminum, or Nylon Drain Test Plugs.
How these plugs are used
These plugs are generally screwed to the socket welded to the pipe. These are equipped suitably to fit into pipes of different sizes and shapes. Following steps are followed for carrying out the testing procedure:
Choose a Universal Drain Test Plug Manufacturer or any other type of plug that suits the application.
Remove any grease or any other material from the point of installation
Make sure there is no dirt trapped between the plug seal and the plates
Seal the pipe with the plug
Tighten the wing nut to make certain that the seal cap is tight enough to ensure complete isolation
Fix the test nipple to one of the plugs attached to the pipe
Connect a rubber hose to the system to apply pressure. The pressure can be increased to determine the highest permissible range.
Similarly, a water test can be performed.
Fix an expanding plug to the lower end of the pipe.
Make sure all the branches are plugged.
Choose a 90-degree bend of the pipe to apply the test head of water with a straight pipe of similar diameter as the line.
Ensure proper support to the standpipe and the plug with a means of filling water into the pipeline.
Supply water to the system ensuring minimum air trapped within.
Leave it for a few hours after which loss of water due to absorption can be measured.
Nylon Drain Test Plugs or drains stoppers can be custom designed as per the application. These can be easily inserted into a pipe and tightened with a wing nut to seal the pipe.
